The Sélection des Vins de Genève awards were handed out yesterday evening in the magnificent setting of the Geneva Music Conservatory, attended by an enthusiastic public that included celebrities from the worlds of gastronomy, culture, politics, sports and wine.
Bertrand Favre from Domaine de Miolan in Choulex was given the famous boar’s trophy by state councilor Antonio Hodgers, awarded to the wine with the highest number of points, for the domain’s Merlot 2023 Albertine 1er cru.
The butterfly engraving which is given by oenology students at the Haute École de Changins for their favourite rosé, was handed out by students Clara Lapierraz and Maxime Bagnoud to Esther Meyer from Château du Crest for the winery’s rosé Ville de Thônex 2024. Domaine Champvigny won the sculpture of a kite bird, given to the top sparkling wine, handed out by Gérard-Philippe Mabillard, director of the Interprofession de la vigne et du vin du Valais, who is also a member of the committee of Swiss Wine.
The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc from Domaine des Curiades was awarded the young boar in bronze, a prize from the students at the École Hôtelière de Genève. Xavier Dupraz received the “Marcassin” sculpture from Myriam Briacca and Bastien Callendrier who are studying at the school.
The tradition trophy, a magnificent etching of an eagles’ nest, is awarded to the winery with the highest average score for its Chasselas and Gamay. The prize is given by the Compagnie des Vieux-Grenadiers and was handed out by Pascal Ganty, president of the Amicale du Clos VG to Olivier Conne from the Domaine des Charmes.
The press award, represented by an engraving of a marten, was given by wine journalists Marie Linder and Antonio Indaco to Philippe Meylan from Domaine de la Guérite for his Gamay 2024.
The bronze fox, a prize for the favourite wine of the cafetiers-restaurateurs members, was given to Lionel Dugerdil from Clos du Château by Audrey Renard of Auberge de la Couronne, for the winery’s Merlot 2022.
The beaver trophy, for the best natural wine, was given by Philippe Roch from the Robert Hainard Foundatioin and Dorian Palic, cantonal oenologist, to Emilienne Hutin from Domaine Les Hutins, for her Gewütztraminer 2023. The wine was named the best natural wine for the second year in a row.
Notable: the excellent musical interludes by the wonderful Stéphane throughout the evening.
All of the trophies were created by internationally renowned artist Robert Hainard.
Fifty-five other wines received gold medals, out of the 560 wines entered in the competition.
